Tim Beauregard to Lead Women’s Basketball Program

Fresno Pacific University Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson has announced the hiring of Tim Beauregard as head women's basketball coach. Beauregard, an FPU alum who served as the lead assistant on a national championship team at Azusa Pacific, becomes the eighth head coach in program history and will be formally introduced at a press conference next week.

"We couldn't be more excited about the addition of Coach Beauregard to our staff," said Henderson. "Throughout his coaching career he has demonstrated a high basketball IQ, a passion for student-athlete success in all areas and a specific passion for Fresno Pacific and the women's basketball program. As we looked at applicants from all over the country, it was clear that Coach Beauregard's experience and skill-set has uniquely prepared him to return FPU women's basketball to prominence.

"He possesses a proven ability to lead young people academically, athletically and spiritually, a proven commitment to alumni relations and a respect for the history of this program. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious and I'm looking forward to seeing him get fans, alumni and community members excited about the future of FPU women's basketball."

Beauregard returns to FPU after previously serving as an assistant with the Sunbirds from 2006-10. While at FPU, Beauregard aided in all aspects of the program and helped the Sunbirds to their last winning season in 2007. He also implemented alumni relations and fundraising strategies to help strengthen the program as a whole. During a head coaching transition following his final season as the lead assistant at FPU, Beauregard oversaw the program for a brief period, landing top recruit Jenay Herring who went on to become FPU's second all-time leading scorer.

"I would like to thank President Richard Kriegbaum, Director of Athletics Aaron Henderson and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to share my vision for the program and ultimately for entrusting me with such a great responsibility," said Beauregard. "I'm deeply honored by the opportunity to lead the Fresno Pacific women's basketball program into its next era.  It is my goal to immediately infuse the program with energy, excitement and confidence for where we are going, while taking concerted steps to get there.  I'm determined to give each student-athlete ownership in this next chapter and to work feverishly with my staff, the athletics administration and school officials to create a program that pursues excellence in all areas."

Following his time at FPU, Beauregard was hired as the lead assistant at Azusa Pacific University where he was responsible for the day-to-day operations of the program, including scheduling, recruiting, scouting and practice planning. The Cougars went on to win the 2011 NAIA national championship after finishing as the national runner-up in 2010. From there Beauregard became an assistant at the University of Cumberlands in Kentucky, another nationally-ranked program, before eventually returning to the Valley where he spent the past season as a local AAU coach.

Beauregard is well connected in the women's basketball world and has served as camp director for nationally-recognized NBC Camps since 2005. He has run over 50 overnight camps and clinics ranging from Canada to Colorado to Southern California, and several spots in between. While at NBC Camps, Beauregard combined and emphasized basketball training with psychological and spiritual training to develop integrity and confidence in his student-athletes.

Beauregard will take over a program that went 5-21 last year in its first season as active members of NCAA Division II, which included a 3-17 mark in PacWest play. The Sunbirds have gone 11-40 over the past two years and haven't posted a winning record since the 2006-07 season.

Despite the recent drought, the FPU women's basketball program has a rich tradition with an all-time record of 535-446 (.545 win percentage), seven conference titles (second most in the history of the Golden State Athletic Conference prior to the program joining the NCAA) and numerous alumni that have gone on to become leaders in their communities.

"I believe this program is uniquely positioned to immediately connect to our alumni, serve our community, recruit top-notch student-athletes and strive for excellence both on and off the court," said Beauregard.  "As the leader of our program, I plan to implement ideas and strategies to create a healthy working culture; one that aligns with the university's and that is built upon service, trust, character, love and a relentless pursuit of excellence.  My ultimate goal is to equip my players with the proper life skills to be high-character leaders, loving spouses, wise parents, civically-minded citizens, successful professionals and women of God."

Beauregard earned his bachelor's degree in organizational leadership from FPU and also holds a master's degree in leadership development from APU. He has also served as an adjunct professor for organizational leadership in the Degree Completion program at FPU.

Beauregard will announce the rest of his coaching staff in the coming weeks.
