OAKLAND, Calif. - Fresno Pacific's bats were in top form on Wednesday as the Sunbirds scored 27 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Holy Names. The wins completed a four-game sweep of the Hawks after Saturday's doubleheader was rescheduled due to rain.
The Sunbirds (17-20, 12-11 PacWest) broke the first game open with a six-run seventh inning before removing all doubt with an 11-run eighth inning in a 19-3 rout. FPU jumped out to an 8-2 lead in a sloppy game two that featured 11 errors between the two teams. The FPU bullpen, along with some defensive miscues, would keep things interesting in the final frame but the Sunbirds held on for the 8-7 win.
Leo Carrillo continued to swing a hot bat, collecting four hits on the day and extending his hitting streak to 15 games.
Derek Arkelian had a team-high five hits on the day, including two doubles and a triple, to go with four runs and three RBI.
Nick Pate and
Bryan Bucher homered in the first game, with Bucher's first home run of the season being a grand slam. Pate would finish the day with four hits, five runs and four RBI.
Joey Gallegos collected three hits and three RBI over the two games.
Rickie Garcia turned in a quality start to earn the victory in game one.
Josh Acosta went five innings to pick up his first collegiate win in game two. Pate picked up a one-out save.
The Hawks dropped to 7-31, 4-20 in PacWest play.
FPU is back home this coming Monday to begin a four-game series with Hawaii Pacific.
