THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Fresno Pacific scored a season-best 15 goals twice on Friday, as the Sunbirds swept action on day one of the Tina Finali Invitational. FPU defeated Siena 15-2 in the opener and concluded the day with a 15-7 victory over Redlands at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.

FPU improves to 4-4 overall on the year with the day sweep.
"The girls played great today," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "We set some team goals and went out focused and ready. I was really happy that we were able to get everyone minutes and our young girls experience. The girls are excited and ready for tomorrow."
In the opener, the Sunbirds started out hot behind two straight goals from
Julia Ponce and never looked back to lead from start-to-finish. FPU held a 6-2 advantage at half and stretched its advantage to 11-2 with a 5-0 third quarter to take control of the game. The Sunbirds finished off the win with another strong defensive quarter to hold Siena scoreless for the second straight period.

Ponce and
Emily Knowles led the way with three goals apiece in the win.
Kaitlin Groothuyzen,
Emily Marr and
Kaeli Hanson added two goals each, while
Mikayla Scheer,
Emily Woodruff and
Nia Apodaca rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece. Apodaca facilitated the offense with a team-high three assists.

Courtney Hall played the first three quarters in the cage and totaled 10 blocks, including one coming on a penalty, while
Kaylin Drum added three saves in the fourth period. Hall also added two assists at goalie.Â
The two goals given up also marked a season-best for the Sunbirds.

In the nightcap, FPU dominated the second and third quarters to earn its second win of the day. With the score tied 4-4 after the opening period, the Sunbirds out-scored Redlands 8-0 the next two periods to take control of the match. FPU finished off the win with three goals in the final period.

Hanson led the charge offensively with four goals for the Sunbirds, while Ponce and Apodaca added three apiece.
Hannah Holly and Knowles found the back of the cage twice. The final score came from Marr, while Apodaca also amassed three assists.
Hall led the defense with five saves and two steals in three quarters, while Drum added two saves in the final period.

The Sunbirds are back in action at the Tina Finali Invite tomorrow against Chapman (10:30 a.m.) and host Cal Lutheran (2:15 p.m.).
