HONOLULU - Fresno Pacific kicked off its Hawaii road trip and its PacWest conference schedule with a 2-0 victory at Chaminade on Saturday.
Bianka Garcia tallied a goal and an assist for the Sunbirds (3-2, 1-0 PacWest), who battled heavy rain and winds to pick up the victory.
"I was proud of our overall effort," said head coach
Rob Podeyn. "We dominated the game from start to finish. Our defensive effort was particularly strong as we didn't allow a shot in the first half and didn't give up any dangerous chances throughout. We did a nice job of continually applying pressure and Rachelle had a nice finish to give us a little cushion."
Garcia scored on a penalty kick in the 23rd minute after
Alyssa Nakaguchi was taken down in the box following a corner kick.
Rachelle Schiller provided the insurance goal in the 70th minute, finishing a pass from a Garcia to make it 2-0.
FPU out-shot the Silverswords 14-2 in the victory (7-1 in shots on goal) as Chaminade fell to 1-4 (0-1 PacWest).
The Sunbirds now travel to the big island for a Monday match-up with Hawaii Hilo.
