FRESNO, Calif. – Fresno Pacific was firing on all cylinders Wednesday night as the Sunbirds downed Merced College, 21-9, in non-conference action. FPU received goals from 12 different players on the evening, including a game-high five from freshman
Jeff Miller, in the win.
The Sunbirds pick up their first win of 2015 and move to 1-3 overall with the decision, while Merced falls to 7-4.
"We've had a couple of tough games to start out the season where our offense really wasn't coming together and our defense had a few things we needed to sort out, so this week we really put an emphasis on fine tuning those areas and it showed tonight," said head coach
Bryan Suhovy. "Offensively we did a great job of spacing and opening up a lot to locate our center. We really focused on movement and the guys did a great job of executing that tonight."
FPU opened play with four consecutive goals, two coming from center
Greg Bracamonte, to take control of the match and never looked back. The Sunbirds held a 13-3 advantage at the intermission and led by as many as 16 on the evening.
Miller led all scorers with five, while freshman
Nick Stegall chipped in three goals for the Sunbirds. Bracamonte,
David Maes and
Zlatko Vlasic found the back of the cage twice.

Steven Kaufmann,
Jamison Shapland,
Kyle Madel and
Kyle Eoff rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
Junior goalkeeper
Dillon Robinson led the defense with 11 saves and three steals. He added a pair of assists to his line as well.
FPU hosts Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Sunnyside Aquatics Center at 3 p.m. in WWPA action.
