Sunbirds take series from #25 Point Loma

SAN DIEGO - Baron Bower homered for the second straight day and Preston Scott collected four hits as Fresno Pacific split with Point Loma on Saturday, taking three out of four in the series from the #25-ranked Sea Lions. Bower's three-run shot in the fifth inning highlighted the first game, a 6-1 Sunbird win.

Eian Raeber (3-4) earned the victory for FPU, working his way out of trouble all day with 5 2/3 innings pitched, six hits and six walks, but just one run given up. Josh Medeles threw 3 1/3 scoreless innings out of the pen for the save. Steven Lozier added a solo homer for FPU, finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Scott finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.

Jake Martinez (5-4) took the loss in game two, as PLNU jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first. FPU got within 5-4 on a Travis Beck solo shot in the sixth but would be unable to draw any closer. Nick Pate, Michael Tittle and McKay France had two hits apiece. Scott finished with an RBI triple for the Sunbirds. Tanner Irwin added another quality relief effort for FPU.

The loss in game two snapped a seven-game FPU win streak. The Sunbirds are 8-7 this year against nationally ranked opponents and have taken three out of the four series' they've played against Top 25 teams.

The series win marked the first time FPU has taken a series from the Sea Lions on their home field since 2009.

FPU returns home next weekend to host Holy Names on Friday and Saturday. It will be the final home series of the year with Senior Day for eight Sunbirds taking place at Saturday's games.
