Bower breaks steals record as FPU walks it off vs. HNU

Fresno Pacific fended off Holy Names for a pair of one-run victories on Friday, capped off by a Michael Tittle walk-off single in the 10th inning of the second game. Baron Bower became the program's career stolen bases leader (36 steals) passing former Sunbird Andrew Douglas.

The Sunbirds (29-15, 17-13 PacWest) received a dominant performance from ace Wilson Ashford (8-2) in game one as the senior lefty went 7 1/3 innings with one earned run, 12 strikeouts and no walks.

Josh Medeles turned in a quality start in game two after Drew Merlo was a late scratch. Tanner Irwin (3-1) picked up the win in relief.

Michael Hostetler collected four hits on the day for FPU and Tittle finished 3-for-6 with two RBI in game two. Steven Lozier delivered a go-ahead homerun in the 8th inning of game two before the Hawks tied it up in the 9th to force extra innings.

The Hawks got a quality start from ace Trent Carrier in game one, but dropped to 19-25, 9-17 in PacWest play.

Ashford's 12 strikeouts were one shy of the FPU single-game record of 13, set by Jesse Darrah in 2011.

The teams conclude the series tomorrow at noon as FPU holds senior day ceremony for 12 seniors playing in their final regular season home game. Senior day festivities will take place immediately following the first game.
