CLAREMONT, Calif. – Kelsie Harvey reached 1,000 career saves as Fresno Pacific dropped a pair of games Friday at the Convergence Tournament. The Sunbirds (4-12) fell in the opener to Chapman, 9-7, before suffering a setback against host Pomona-Pitzer, 11-3.
In the opener, FPU couldn't overcome a slow start against Chapman. The Sunbirds allowed five straight goals to open the game and trailed 5-1 at the intermission. FPU cut the deficit to one, 8-7, behind a hat-trick from
Mikayla Scheer in the second half, but wouldn't find the equalizer in the defeat.
Scheer's three goals led the Sunbirds, while
Mallory Rettig added a pair of scores.
Emily Marr and
Kaeli Hanson added one apiece.
Harvey tallied five saves in the defeat to give her a milestone of 1,000 career saves.
The Sunbirds fell victim to a sluggish second half in the nightcap and allowed eight goals in the final two quarters in the loss. FPU trailed 3-2 at halftime before a 7-0 run by Pomona-Pitzer but the game out of reach.
Rettig, Marr and
Julia Ponce scored a goal apiece for FPU. Harvey amassed eight saves in the cage.
The Sunbirds are back in action tomorrow at the Convergence Tournament against Whittier (9:00 am) and Occidental (2:20 pm).
