Sunbirds Send off Seniors in Style by Knocking off #18 Air Force

FRESNO. Calif. – Daniel Seymour made his final home game a memorable one as Fresno Pacific upset #18 Air Force, 16-14, on Senior Night at Sunnyside Aquatics Center. Seymour led the Sunbirds to the Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) victory with five goals and five assists under the lights on Friday.
 
FPU improved to 10-14 overall and 2-3 in WWPA play with the win, while the Falcons fall to 7-15 overall and 1-4 in league play.
 
"Our seniors really stepped up tonight," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. " This win was huge for us in conference play, and for these guys in their final home game. They have been leaders in and out of the water, they have been focused all year and they have elevated this program. I am very proud of our effort tonight."
 
In an all-out battle of a match, the Sunbirds held a slight advantage at halftime 8-7. After the Falcons tied the game to open the second half, FPU took control of the match with a 3-0 run with a goal from David Maes and two from Kyle Madel. The Sunbirds would head into the final period up 12-10.
 
As the fourth period started, Seymour took control of the game and scored twice in a span of a minute to give FPU a 14-10 advantage. Maes then put the nail in the coffin on a man-up advantage to give the Sunbirds their biggest lead of the night, 15-10. Air Force rallied to the make the final 16-14 before time ran out.
 
Seymour powered the Sunbirds on offense with his five goals and five assists. His season assists total hit 51, which puts him tied-for-first in FPU's single-season record books. Senior Greg Bracamonte finished with a hat trick from inside, while Kyle Madel also scored three times. Maes added two goals and Erik Brown, senior Zlatko Vlasic and Jeff Miller rounded out the scoring with a goal apiece.
 
Senior Kevin Richey spearheaded the defensive effort with 13 saves in the cage. Bracamonte added three steals.
 
Riley Thomas and Eric Curia led Air Force with three goals.
 
Prior the game, the Sunbirds honored their four seniors – Vlasic, Seymour, Bracamonte and Richey.
 
The Sunbirds wrap-up the regular season tomorrow at Santa Clara at 1 p.m.
