Men's Water Polo

Gray & Hammes Named ACWPC All-Americans

FRESNO, Calif. - NCAA Division II All-America was announced on Thursday by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, solely recognizing WWPA conference men's water polo players to the list. Among the twelve honorees, Fresno Pacific's Forrest Gray and Chase Hammes were named All-Americans for the first time ever.

Similar to the 2025 All-WWPA selections, Gray was named to the All-America first team and goalkeeper Hammes earned a spot as an Honorable Mention. The duo consistently led the way for the Sunbirds throughout the season, anchoring the team with standout performances and setting the standard on both ends of the pool.

"This season Forrest and Chase were amazing leaders for us both in and out of the pool," said head coach Jonathan Miller. "I'm thrilled that they were recognized as All-Americans by coaches from across the country."

The senior attacker from Milpitas collected multiple postseason honors, being named Second Team All-WWPA and All-Tournament First Team. He led the team in several categories, specifically in goals, shots, and points. Overall, he scored 65 goals and tallied 19 assists and 22 steals. Gray was sixth in conference in goals, tenth in points, sixth in goals-per-game, and seventh in points-per-game. His performance was consistent and explosive in the water, allowing him to collect 15 multi-scoring matches over the course of the season.

Hammes, two-time WWPA defensive player of the week, was crucial for the Sunbirds between the bars. He was the starting goalkeeper throughout the season, collecting 195 saves and 35 steals overall. An unforgettable moment for the junior goalkeeper was when he tallied a career-high 17 saves in the 9-8 conference triumph over UC Merced and accomplished a shutout in the second half. The Sanger, Calif. native was ranked third in conference in saves-per-game, saves, steals, and steals-per-game. On top of the All-America honor, he was also selected as All-WWPA Honorable Mention and All-Tournament Second Team.

"They both were at the top of the conference leader boards statistically at their positions and stepped up in big games throughout the season. They are very deserving of this honor!"

With Hammes and Gray's contributions, Fresno Pacific men's water polo, led by first-year head coach Jonathan Miller, finished the season 5-20 overall and 2-4 in conference play. The team placed fourth in conference and made it to the WWPA semifinals for the first time since joining the WWPA.
