Box ScoreFresno Pacific took on Mountain West opponent Fresno State in the annual crosstown exhibition between the two programs on Tuesday night, with the Sunbirds falling 78-33.
Taylor Caspers scored 10 points to lead the Sunbirds, who gained valuable experience against a Division I opponent that has consistently competed for NCAA tournament berths.
Taylor Martin added seven points off the bench for FPU.
The Sunbirds played well in stretches, particularly on the defensive end, forcing the Bulldogs to take tough shots and holding FSU to 39% shooting on the night and just 12 points in the third quarter.
"In the third quarter we came out and played really hard and we executed a lot of the things we've been working on," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "Every game we play we're going to learn from. We knew this was going to be a challenging one coming in. More than anything we wanted to make sure we competed hard and represented Fresno Pacific to the best of our ability."
Fresno State's size was a clear advantage as the Bulldogs outscored FPU 42-20 in the paint and dominated the boards 48-19.
The Sunbirds are back on the road this weekend, making the short trip up to UC Merced for a 7 pm matchup on Saturday night.
