SAN FRANCISCO - After dropping the first set, Fresno Pacific stormed back to win three straight and pick up a PacWest road victory 3-1 at Academy of Art on Thursday night. The Sunbirds (6-12, 6-7 PacWest) received big performances from their outside hitters as
Gabriela Macedo and
Carley Bock finished with 16 and 15 kills respectively. Macedo hit a match-high .342 and also recorded 15 digs.
"We've been trying to find our identity as a team and at this point in the season we're really starting to discover who we are," said head coach
Matt Terra. "Tonight we started slow once again but did a great job of adjusting and were dominant by the third set. We figured they would gameplan around our middles and so that gave a chance for our outsides to really step up. We just took what the defense gave us and did a good job of spreading it around offensively."
Hannah Butler led FPU defensively with 16 digs while
Bissie DenHartog dished out 43 assists.
Chelsea Speaks finished with 10 digs,
Sarah McCann had eight kills and 13 digs, and
Montana Lowe was a force both offensively and defensively, hitting .333 with nine kills and six blocks.
FPU hit .261 on the night while holding ARTU to a .113 percentage.
The Urban Knights (6-15, 2-11 PacWest) got 15 kills from Stine Raben in the loss.
FPU begins a six-match homestand this Saturday as they face Notre Dame de Namur at 3 pm.
"We've established ourselves as a strong defensive squad," said Terra. "But we're starting to figure it out and grow offensively as well. I expect us to play really well heading into next week as we break down game film and prepare to battle some talented teams for the second time."
