"Kathleen had another stellar performance and really controlled the match," said Winter. "Our other hitters did a good job as well and we hit .268 as a team, which is closer to where we need to be. Defensively we did a good job of picking up on their tendencies and by the third set really had them figured out. We need to continue to adapt quickly and get better as the match goes on."
The Sunbirds broke a 22-22 tie in the first set with a 3-0 run to end it, capped off by kills from Anderson and Macedo. In set two the Sunbirds built up an early lead of 8-3 but the Clan gradually made their way back into it, eventually tying it up 24-24. Anderson delivered a kill to put FPU back ahead and McCann would end it with a service ace. In the final set FPU controlled from start to finish, building up a 13-6 lead and never looking back. FPU held SFU to .030 hitting in set three.
Kelsey Robinson led SFU with eight kills as the Clan fell to 4-1 on the season.
FPU continues the tournament tomorrow, facing Montana State Billings at 11 am and Western Oregon at 4 pm.
