Defense was at a premium and the Sunbirds were unable to slow down a blistering offensive attack from Point Loma as the Sea Lions snapped FPU's six-game winning streak 75-65.
"We are not going to be able to beat anyone if we are allowing anyone to shoot 61-percent. We gave up way too many uncontested shots, and versus a team that averages about 40-percent we knew we had to close down shooters and we just didn't get the job done today," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson.
Jenay Herring put on a show scoring a career-high tying 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. Herring also added four rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Keairra White also finished in double figures for a Fresno Pacific team that shot just 38.9-percent, the lowest percentage since the Sunbirds' last loss against BYU Hawaii on January 18.
On the other side Point Loma put together one of its most impressive offensive performances scoring 75 points while hitting a season-high 56.6-percent of its shots, including 50-percent from beyond the arc.
The Sunbirds trailed by just two at half time and came out of the gate hot in the second period to take a four-point lead on a Herring three pointer with 15:06 remaining. The Sea Lions then clamped down on defense and held FPU scoreless for the next almost seven minutes. PLNU went on a 19-7 run that put the game out of reach for FPU.
The win streak was the longest conference win streak for Fresno Pacific since 2002, the last time the Sunbirds had a winning conference record.
FPU will look to begin a new winning streak a week from Monday when they play host to Academy of Art on senior night on February 17.Â
