Box Score
Fresno Pacific kept its playoff hopes alive with an 85-79 win in double-overtime against BYU Hawaii. Six Sunbirds finished in double figures, including all five starters, in the team's third-highest scoring output of the season.
"It was great for us to bounce back tonight and get a win," said head coach
Lindsey Wilson. "We did a better job today of playing our style, and dictating the pace of the game."
Jenay Herring once again led the way offensively for FPU (10-13, 10-7 PacWest) dropping 18 points while handing out four assists.
Patrice Saindon,
Keairra White,
Bree Alvarez,
Breana Buczek and
Jazmine Simpson all finished in double figures for the Sunbirds. Saindon also chipped in six assists and six rebounds in the win.
The Sunbirds took an 11-point lead with 7:36 left in the game before BYU Hawaii (2-21, 2-13 PacWest) went on a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to pull within four points.
Talyn Bevel hit a big three to tie the game at 64 at the end of regulation. The Seasiders were also the beneficiaries of a 6-1 foul call advantage over the final six minutes of the second half, which led to a 6-2 free throw advantage.
After an even overtime period, the Sunbirds finally closed the door outscoring BYU Hawaii 11-5 in the second overtime thanks in large part to White and Herring. Herring scored four and White chipped in the decisive three points in the game.
"Keairra did a good job of stepping up for us tonight and getting to the basket. That is really her strength," said Wilson. "She was playing very well on both ends for us tonight."
The Sunbirds need to finish in the top-three in the PacWest in order to advance to the NCCAA West Region playoffs and remained one-game back of California Baptist for third place with the win.Â
Fresno Pacific will next take on Hawaii Pacific in Honolulu at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. A win would guarantee FPU its first winning conference season since 2002. Â
