No. 10 Fresno Pacific got a stellar performance from freshman
Angelika Sobiecka at No. 3 singles to lift them to a 5-4 win over No. 27 Azusa Pacific.
"Angelika did a great job coming back from down a set. She stepped up in a big pressure situation and delivered for us," said head coach Neil Castro. "We were better as a team today and rebounded well from the loss last week, but we still have a long way to go."
Sobiecka turned in a gutsy performance at No. 3 singles coming back after dropping set one to defeat Danae Ingwaldson (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and secure the win for the Sunbirds. No. 14
Petra Jurova took down No. 25 Emily Harris in straight sets 6-4, 6-0. Laure Anne-Josso also defeated Lindsey Yeom in straight sets 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play FPU took two out of three matches and Sobiecka and Jurova rallied from down 3-0 to No. 20 Ingwaldson and Harris to pull out a 9-7 win. At No. 2 doubles
Erin Carlson and
Alison Carre outlasted Kim Koetterheinrich and Lindsey Yeom 9-7 to put FPU up 2-1 heading into singles.
The loss was the first of the season for Azusa Pacific and it marked the fourth straight time the Cougars have fallen to the Sunbirds.
Fresno Pacific will travel to San Diego on Friday to take on No. 36 Point Loma and No. 17 UC San Diego this weekend.
