After two closely-contested sets, Fresno Pacific went on a 16-1 run in the third to put away visiting Academy of Art on Saturday night. The win gave the Sunbirds (19-7, 13-4 PacWest) a season sweep over the Urban Knights (12-14, 7-11 PacWest) for the third consecutive season.
Kathleen Anderson had 18 kills, five blocks and hit .640 on the night to lead a well-balanced Sunbird attack that included nine kills apiece from
Morghan Williams and
Rupia Inck, and eight kills apiece by
Rebecca Waller and
Gabriela Macedo (.368).
Hannah Butler had 20 digs on the night with
Toni Murphy adding 10. Murphy finished with four of FPU's 10 service aces.
Bissie DenHartog dished out a match-high 29 assists with
Sarah McCann adding 15.
The Sunbirds hit .287 as a team, including a sizzling .552 in set three, while holding the Urban Knights to .183 hitting on the night.
ARTU was led by 12 kills from Melissa Brum and 25 assists from Rachael Smith.
The Sunbirds now travel to Dominican for a matchup in San Rafael on Tuesday night. The Penguins took the Sunbirds to five sets earlier this week.
