ST. GEORGE, Utah – Fresno Pacific saw its season conclude Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Dixie State at Hansen Stadium. The Sunbirds surrendered three-second half goals to make the difference in the loss.
FPU concludes its season at 9-6-1 overall and 7-4-1 in PacWest play. The loss keeps FPU at 22 points in conference play and holds the Sunbirds out of postseason play due to a tiebreaker with Notre Dame de Namur. DSU finishes its campaign at 2-12-2, 2-9-1.
"We didn't play well today," said head coach
Jaime Ramirez. "We had a few chances in the first half that could've changed the game, but couldn't capitalize on the opportunities. We weren't able to adjust to the turf and didn't handle ourselves well today."
DSU scored first and benefitted from an own goal by FPU. The Red Storm carried that lead into halftime, despite the Sunbirds firing three shots on goal in the period.
In the second half, FPU surrendered a second goal in the 68th minute before an own goal by DSU cut the deficit back to one, 2-1, with 15 minutes to go in the match. The Red Storm finished out the remaining time with two goals to make the final 4-1.
FPU was out-shot 15-5 on the day, with 11 shots from DSU coming in the second half.
Andrew Luis finished with three saves in 68 minutes of action.
