Fresno Pacific swept Holy Names for the second time in three days, defeating the Hawks 25-11, 25-14 and 29-27 on Saturday. The Sunbirds (11-6, 5-3 PacWest), wore pink jerseys to raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. All proceeds from Dig Pink night were given to the Sideout Foundation.
Morghan Williams had 12 kills and
Kathleen Anderson added nine with a .615 attack percentage.
Hannah Butler finished with 21 digs,
Sarah McCann had 27 assists and
Bissie DenHartog added 12 as the team won its fourth straight.
The Sunbirds jumped ahead right out of the gate, building a 14-2 lead and finishing the set by holding the Hawks to a negative .083 percentage. FPU hit .305 on the night while holding the Hawks to a .067 attack percentage.
It was a chance for some of the team's younger players to get valuable game experience. Freshman
Emily Segel contributed seven kills and three digs, while sophomore
Chelsea Speaks finished with nine digs and sophomore
Montana Lowe hit .300.
"It was really good to get our young players in," said head coach
Kelly Winter. "We're going to be relying on them a lot in the future and so to get them game-ready is really important. I was really pleased with how they did. We had a lot of freshmen and sophomores on the court and they did a nice job."
The Sunbirds travel to the Bay Area next week for games at Academy of Art Wednesday night and Notre Dame de Namur on Thursday.
"Academy of Art always plays us really tough," said Winter. "They're a very physical team and very good in their gym. So that will be a big match for us. We have a lot of momentum coming in and we're hoping to keep that going.
