SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Amber Rodriguez scored a golden goal six and a half minutes into overtime to lift FPU to its fifth consecutive victory. The Sunbirds (5-5-1, 5-1-1 PacWest) trailed 1-0 until the 75th minute when
Jay Valtierra scored off a pass from
Jerrica Babb.
"This was another great come from behind result for our girls today and something we can be very proud of," said head coach
Erik Farfan. "After conceding the first half goal, it was fantastic to see our team's response which ultimately led to Jerrica connecting with Jay on the equalizer for her first goal of the season, and Amber's game-winning volley off of
Alyssa Nakaguchi's cross was a thing of beauty."
Nakaguchi crossed the ball into the box and it deflected back to Rodriguez, who delivered a perfect chip shot over the goalie for the game-winner.
FPU out-shot DUC 15-11 in the victory as the Penguins fell to 2-9, 2-3 in PacWest play.
The Sunbirds have a long break in the schedule until their next game, taking on perennial league power Cal Baptist in Riverside on October 21.
