Sunbirds dominate Concordia in a pair of 9-0 wins

Fresno Pacific swept away former GSAC rival Concordia in a pair of 9-0 wins on Thursday. The men wont their first match since returning from Las Vegas and the women won their second straight.

The 28th ranked women's team won all three doubles matches as the No. 5 ranked doubles pair in the region, Marie Boura and Petra Jurova, defeated Elizaveta Ignatova and Mona Piller in dominant fashion 8-1.

In singles play the Sunbirds (14-5) new No. 1, and the No. 6 ranked singles player in the region, Jurova beat the No. 11 player in the NAIA Ignatova in straight sets 6-3, 6-1. No 12 Marie Boura beat No. 26 in the NAIA Ulrike Hahn 6-1, 6-1 for her second straight win.

The Sunbirds swept three of the remaining four singles matches against the Eagles. Anna Mikhaylova took three sets to beat No. 45 NAIA Summer Beaird 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

On the men's side No. 12 FPU was equally dominant scoring a shutout win in doubles and straight set victories in five of six singles matches.

Kirill Sinitsyn and Kyle Rowe won at No. 1 doubles over Christ Wickenhauser and Jordan Hovis 8-6 for the Sunbirds (11-5). Sinitsyn and Rowe were recently named the No. 5 doubles pair in the West region.

At No. 2 doubles Amarit Sanchez and Michael Tymkiw easily handled Micah Groom and Patrick Szermeta 8-0 to secure a lead heading into singles play for the Sunbirds.

No. 12 Sinitsyn stayed hot after a big upset win over No. 2 Hans Hach in Vegas with a straight set win over Wickenhauser 6-0, 6-1. John Karlman earned a win at No. 6 singles filling in for the injured Marco Gabriel who was sidelined with an injury while in Las Vegas. Karlman took the first set against Van Morgen 6-2 who followed with a 2-6 win of his own in set two. In the final frame Karlman closed the door with a 6-4 win.

Stefan Loop, Sanchez, Tymkiw and Rowe all swept their singles matches for Fresno Pacific.

The Sunbirds will be back on the road on Monday to take on No. 11 and No. 29 Azusa Pacific in Azusa at 1:30 pm.
