Box Score The Sunbirds got four first half goals on their way to a 6-3 win over Holy Names in Hayward. Freshmen
Joey Belzil and
Jorge Chedraui each scored twice in the win.
FPU got off to a quick start when Chedraui scored twice in the first three minutes of the match putting the Sunbirds (12-4-1, 9-2 PacWest) well on their way to their fourth straight victory.
The Sunbirds had five players score at least two points. Chedraui, Belzil,
Alvaro Nogales and
Gustavo Silva all added goals and
Renato Bustamante handed out two assists. Silva and Nogales also added assists.
"We had so many clear opportunities today," said head coach
Jaime Ramirez. "The offense is really going right now and the guys are scoring goals in bunches. That is what we need heading into playoffs."
After taking a 4-0 lead into the half the Sunbirds were put under pressure by HNU (5-10-2, 4-7 PacWest). The Hawks grabbed two quick goals in the 55th and 59th minutes to close the deficit to just two.
Silva shut the door after scoring on a penalty kick in the 64th minute and handing out an assist on Belzil's second goal in the 67th minute. Holy Names added their final goal in the 86th minute.
The Sunbirds can win the PacWest conference this Saturday when they face Academy of Art in San Francisco. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
