#20 California Baptist 15, Fresno Pacific 10

#11 Concordia 17, Fresno Pacific 11

Riverside, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific University men's water polo team took on two nationally ranked teams to close out their 2013 season. The team first faced off against #20 California Baptist who bested the Sunbirds 15-10.

"It was a tough final weekend against two top ranked teams," said head coach Bryan Suhovy. "Our young team played well and our future is bright. Our two seniors Jake Finney and Stephen Chafi played great leading the team every step of the way. We were never out of the game and created a lot of opportunities. With a freshman-heavy team we are excited with where we are and the direction in which our program is going."

The Sunbirds were led offensively by junior Zlatko Vlasic, who found the back of the net three times throughout the first match. Sophomore Daniel Seymour contributed two goals in the last quarter of the game.  Senior goalie Jake Finney had eight saves against the Lancers. Red-shirt junior Kyle Mauriello, red-shirt sophomore David Maes along with the freshmen Kyle Madel added their name on the scores sheet with a goal each. Despite matching goals in the last quarter, the Sunbirds were not able to close the scoring gap.

In the second match the Sunbirds took on # 11 Concordia with the Eagles handing FPU a 17-11 loss in the season finale. Even with Vlasic scoring three goals in the first quarter, the Sunbirds fell behind 8-4 in the opening stanza. Senior Stephen Chafi scored his lone goal of the day in the second quarter.  Seymour buried the ball in the back of the net three times while Maes added two more goals throughout the match. Vlasic added a fourth goal in the last quarter. The Sunbirds fought back hard and matched goals with the Eagles in the last quarter. Finney had another strong performance making seven saves in his final game as a Sunbird to cap off a stellar career.
