Results - Stanislaus Invite

Fresno Pacific put together its best performance of the young season finishing second on both the men's and women's sides at the Stanislaus Invitational.

The men got great performances from Brandon Croft and Cody Kinsman who finished second and fourth among attached runners with times of 15:25 and 15:38 on the 5k course. As a team the Sunbirds finished just 12 points behind the host school Cal State Stanislaus with 36 points. Adam Said Awad, Ismael Guzman and Ricardo Jazo all posted solid times finishing in ninth, 10th and 11th. Gabe Rios and Artem Pyryev finished in 16th and 24th to round out the scoring for FPU.

"The men and women ran excellent races today. Brandon, Cody, Adam, Ismael and Artem all had lifetime bests," said head coach Eric Schwab.

On the women's side Deirdre Wyrick put together a great performance, excelling at the shorter distance (3K) leading the way for the Sunbirds with a seventh place finish in 10:34. Freshman standout Cristal Rivera and sophomore Jennifer Arellano finished right behind Wyrick in eighth and ninth place with times of 10:41 and 10:42. Those three times top-10 finishes allowed the Sunbirds to create a large gap between their second place finish of 54 points and Cal State East Bay's 97 point third place finish.

Courtney Moore, Sarah Aghazeynali, Brandy Hurd and Lauren Nance finished out the scoring for FPU with 14th, 16th, 19th, and 20th place finishes.

"The girls ran very well today with a lot of lifetime bests," said Schwab. "Deirdre, Jennifer, Courtney, Sarah, Brandy and Lauren all set new personal records for themselves."

Both teams travel to Costa Mesa next weekend to run in the Vanguard Invitational. Races are set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
