Fresno Pacific played tough for a full 90 minutes in its home opener on Saturday but Southern Oregon come from behind, scoring a second half goal before striking just two minutes into overtime to deal the Sunbirds a 2-1 loss.

Stephanie Carr scored both goals for the Raiders (2-0-1), taking a deep free kick in overtime and striking it past a diving Sarah King to the corner of the net.

The Sunbirds (0-1) did a good job of moving the ball around in the first half to create chances and would capitalize in the 31st minute when Jae Slocum and Amanda Hudec connected on passes before finding Jay Valtierra for a shot from 10 yards out.

Valtierra, playing in her first college game, put the Sunbirds up 1-0, a lead they would bring into the halftime break. FPU's defense was rock solid for the first 2/3 of the game, with freshman Caressa Archie and junior Brianna Reyes putting together impressive showings in their first games with the team.

In the 67th minute though, SOU's Julie Zamzow would steal the ball and find Carr for the open goal. FPU would have plenty of chances in the second half, as Jae Slocum and Demi Hamilton created opportunites, but the Raiders stayed on the offensive until the decisive goal.

Southern Oregon, an NAIA member, is receiving votes in the national Top 25.

The Sunbirds travel down to Bakersfield on Tuesday night to take on NCAA Division I Cal State Bakersfield at 7 pm.
