Fresno Pacific earned a key road victory at Concordia on Saturday, overwhelming the Eagles in the second-half on their way to a 79-64 win.
Keri Stephanoff had 19 points and 14 rebounds,
Kayla Clement scored 18 points and
Jenay Herring added 17 with 15 points coming in the second half.
Brandi Blackwell set a career-high with 18 rebounds and added nine points.
The Sunbirds, who came into the game tied with the Eagles in the GSAC standings, improve to 12-10 (4-6 in GSAC play). FPU also completed a season sweep of Concordia, having defeated the Eagles 84-79 in a December meeting in Fresno.
FPU trailed 32-31 at the halftime break, but would start the second half on a 14-1 run.
"We struggled to find composed offense in the first half and gave up too many open shots in transition," said head coach Erin Scholz. "Our team responded very well in the second half and made some big plays. We could have gone either way at the half and I'm pleased with our response and presence in the second half to secure a road win."
Clement opened up the second half with two three-pointers and Herring would keep the pressure on the Eagles by attacking the basket and efficiently running the offense. Stephanoff and Blackwell controlled the boards while
Breana Buczek, who finished with nine points, spearheaded the defensive effort and had four blocks.
Concordia cut the lead to five at the 10-minute mark, but the Sunbirds would go on another run started by a
Callie Rohrbacker three-pointer and three straight buckets from Stephanoff.
The Eagles got 17 points from Melody Chavez and 14 from Carly Bishop in the loss.
Blackwell's 18 rebounds was four short of the FPU school record of 22, set by Annie Taylor against Cal State Monterey Bay in the 2000-01 season.
FPU will host The Master's (9-13, 2-8 GSAC) on Tuesday at 5:30 pm. The Sunbirds will look to avenge a double-overtime loss to the Mustangs on January 3. With the win, the Sunbirds are now in a three-way tie for fifth place in the conference with Biola and Point Loma Nazarene.
