Fresno Pacific continues to roll, handing visiting Cal Maritime an 85-53 loss and improving to 8-4 on the season.
Jenay Herring had 19 points, six assists and six steals in the victory.
Kayla Clement added 14 points and 10 assists.
FPU shot 53 percent on the night, while holding the Keelhaulers to just 30.5 percent. The Sunbirds would out-rebound Cal Maritime by a vast margin as well, 45-29.
The Sunbirds, who never trailed in the game, jumped out to a 20-7 lead and wouldn't look back. Herring disrupted the Keelhauler offense right from the start, coming up with quick steals that turned defense into offense. By halftime FPU had opened up a 47-30 lead and had shot 64 percent in the first half.
The team extended the lead to as many as 34 in the second half after a
Sienna Gonzales three-pointer made it 71-37 with 11:29 to play.
Brandi Blackwell had a game-best 10 rebounds in the win.
Keri Stephanoff scored 13 points, joining the other two Sunbirds in double figures. Blackwell,
Breana Buczek and
Callie Rohrbacker scored eight points apiece.
The Keelhaulers, led by 12 points from Kelly Stephens, fell to 4-7 with the loss. Alexsis Brown added 11 points and nine rebounds for Cal Maritime.
FPU has now won three of its last four, with the lone loss coming in a tightly-contested game with NCAA D1 Sacramento State. By picking up its eighth win tonight in the final game before Christmas, the team has already equaled last season's win total for the entire season.
The next Sunbird game will take place at the Peninsula Hoops Classic hosted by Menlo, December 29-30. FPU will face Menlo and Holy Names, both teams FPU has defeated already this season.
