Fresno Pacific cruised to a 70-54 win over visiting Menlo on Saturday night, improving to 4-1 on the season.
Keairra White scored 16 points,
Jenay Herring added 12 points and seven assists while
Brandi Blackwell had 12 rebounds in the win.
The Sunbirds did a good job of passing and finding open looks, getting plenty of high-percentage shots and helping offset 22 turnovers. Defensively the Sunbirds effectively shut down the Oaks, contesting shots and holding them to 27 percent shooting.
Keri Stephanoff and
Callie Kloubec each added 10 points in the victory, with
Breana Buczek totaling eight rebounds and four assists.
FPU took control early on with a balanced scoring attack led by White, Herring and Stephanoff. The team led by as many as 14 in the first half and settled for a 35-23 halftime lead.
The Sunbirds would get up by as many as 16 early in the second half after a
Callie Rohrbacker three-pointer and a three-point play converted by White. The Oaks would chip away at the lead and get as close as nine on a couple occasions, but that would be as close as they would get.
Erika Garcia led the Oaks with 18 points and point guard Jolise Limcaco also played well in the loss. The game was the first of two matchups between FPU and Menlo this season, as they'll meet again December 29 at Menlo.
The Sunbirds are back on the court this Tuesday night, traveling to Holy Names for a 5:30 pm game.
