Box Score
For the second straight game Fresno Pacific had a victory right there for the taking, but the Sunbirds surrendered two second-half goals in a 2-1 loss at The Master's on Wednesday.
FPU (8-5, 4-2 GSAC) played with a one-man advantage for the final 35 minutes after a Mustang player was given a red card, but allowed the game-winner during that span.
Jorge Serrano scored both goals for the Mustangs (10-1-3, 3-1-2 in GSAC) including the game-winner in the 81st minute.
Paul Islas scored FPU's goal in the 23rd minute, his 13th of the season with
Fabricio Nazare getting the assist.
The Sunbirds would head into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead before Serrano tied it up just five minutes into the second half. TMC's Joel Peluffo was given a red card in the 55th minute, which seemed to shift the momentum in the Sunbirds' favor. Instead the Mustangs would hold off FPU's chances and eventually come through with the game-winner.
FPU was without top defender
Guilherme Machado, who missed the match due to injury.
The loss drops the Sunbirds out of a tie for first place and puts them into a tie for third with Vanguard, who lost to Azusa Pacific 1-0 today. The Mustangs are just one point behind, in fifth. Concordia sits atop the conference at 5-1, while APU moves into second at 4-1-1.
FPU will look to get back on track on Saturday as they host Hope International at 3 pm. The Royals (5-6-1, 2-4 GSAC) are the only team to have defeated first-place Concordia this season.
