Fresno Pacific prepares for what looks to be its toughest non-conference home game as the Sunbirds host the NCAA D2 #22 Sonoma State Seawolves tonight at 7 pm.

Sonoma State, playing in its season opener, is the preseason pick to win the CCAA North Division and capture the conference tournament crown. The Seawolves have started off the year with exhibitions against some of the nation's best to prepare for the regular season, losing to NCAA #13 Stanford 3-2 and falling to St. Mary's 4-1.

FPU is coming off a loss of their own to an NCAA D1 school, falling 3-1 at Sacramento State last weekend. Paul Islas scored an equalizer goal after the Hornets took an early lead, but two late first half miscues doomed the Sunbirds.

The last time these two schools met was just two years ago, the 2008 season, at Sonoma State. The Sunbirds struck first in that one, on a goal from Daniel Spieth in the 53rd minute, and led 1-0 with five minutes to play. The Seawolves would tie it in the 85th minute though and go on to win in overtime.

This year's Seawolves are led by senior defender Ryan Hall and junior forwards Trevor Hurst and Cam Vickers, all returning All-Region players. Vickers scored the game-winning goal against the Sunbirds in 2008.
