Sunbirds shutout Vanguard to take game-two

COSTA MESA, Calif. - Fresno Pacific (24-12, 16-12 GSAC) came back strong after falling to Vanguard (29-10, 20-8 GSAC) 16-9 earlier in the day, putting Vanguard up 3-0 in the series, but the Sunbirds rallied defensively to pull off a 9-0 shutout-victory in their second game.

Sean Cunningham received his first loss of the season pitching the first 2.2 innings and allowing six hits and one earned run.  However, three unearned runs scored in the first inning on two errors, putting the Sunbirds down 4-3 when Cunningham left the game.

The game got away from the Sunbirds in the sixth and seventh inning as Vanguard scored 10 unanswered runs to put the game out of reach.

Game-two was a different story; Kelyn Schellenberg came in and pitched six scoreless innings to carry the Sunbirds to a shutout victory.  Schellenberg allowed four hits and had five strikeouts.

Case Rigby and Anthony Martinez led the Sunbirds with three RBIs apiece with all of Rigby's coming in their 9-0 win.  Martinez had a two-run homerun in the Sunbirds' victory as well.

Tyler Pryor also had a two-run homerun in game-one for the Sunbirds.

Fresno Pacific finished up their series with Vanguard 1-3 and remain in fourth place in the GSAC standings.  The Sunbirds will travel to Biola for another doubleheader on Wednesday, April 21 beginning at 11 a.m.
