Baseball sweeps Azusa on the road

Sunbirds win 15-5 and 8-7

AZUSA, Calif. – Fresno Pacific (23-9, 15-9 GSAC) got two big wins on the road against Azusa Pacific (14-22, 7-17 GSAC) after splitting their two meetings in Fresno.  The Sunbirds scored 23 runs and 4 homeruns in their two wins over Azusa with a dominate 15-5 win in game-one and a narrow 8-7 victory in the second game.

Case Rigby led the Sunbirds with seven RBIs combined in the doubleheader and a three-run homerun to conclude their 15-run game-one victory.  Rigby finished the day with a .400 batting percentage.

Tyler Pryor, Anthony Martinez and Matt Souza each had solo-homeruns for the Sunbirds.  Pryor followed Rigby with five RBIs on the day.

Pryor and Rigby combined for 10 of the Sunbirds' 14 RBIs from game-one.

Sean Cunningham (6-2) and Michael Rivera (2-0) received wins for both of their performances in the doubleheader; Cunningham pitched 7.0 innings and allowed 7 hits and 4 runs with 8 strikeouts in game-one while Rivera closed game-two pitching the final 2.2 innings allowing a hit and a run.

The Sunbirds will return home on Wednesday, April 14 to take on No. 9 Vanguard in a doubleheader.  Vanguard is currently one spot ahead of the Sunbirds in the conference standings with two more wins than Fresno Pacific.  The Sunbirds will look to close the gap over their four-game series with Vanguard.  The first game will begin at 2 p.m.
