Nayeli Deniz scored three goals as Fresno Pacific defeated #11 Cal Baptist 3-0 on Saturday.

The Sunbirds got on the board just seven minutes into the game when Maghan Wright took a corner that was headed in by Deniz.

FPU would score again on a similar play in the 25th minute, this time with Tori Alvarez taking the corner kick and once again finding Deniz.

With a 2-0 lead the Sunbird defense buckled down and withstood an onslaught of Lancer shots. While CBU out-shot the Sunbirds 23-9, the quality opportunities by the Lancers were limited. Catherine Michaelis made nine saves in goal for the Sunbirds, while Wright and Jae Slocum did a fantastic job of shutting down CBU offensive threats.

In the 78th minute, Deniz completed her hat-trick with the most difficult goal of the day. After a CBU foul, Wright took a free kick and perfectly placed a hard line drive into the box. Deniz lightly headed it, just enough to redirect it, giving the keeper no chance to make a play.

With the win, the Sunbirds pull even at 2-2 in the GSAC. They improve to 4-6-1 overall. The Lancers dropped to 8-4, 2-3 in GSAC play.

FPU is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Santa Barbara for a 3 pm match with Westmont.
