Box Score
Fresno Pacific surrendered an early goal and couldn't recover, falling 2-0 at home to Biola on Tuesday night.
The Sunbirds (8-6, 5-2) made two critical mistakes in the first half, falling behind early against a Biola team that has boasted one of the best defensive sides in the conference this year.
The Eagles (6-7-1, 4-3) scored less than three minutes in when Jacob Ravenscraft got a point-blank shot after a corner kick. Zach Bautista took the corner and the ball was flicked by Jared Fenlason, right to Ravenscraft who was uncovered and had a wide open shot at the net.
Biola would add another before the half on a series of well-played passes that led to a breakaway by Kenny Anderson. He raced down the right side of the field and crossed the ball into the box, where leading goal-scorer Kennedy Chongo was waiting. Chongo sharply headed the ball into the goal before the keeper had time to react.
The Sunbirds struggled all night to create legitimate chances.
Gustavo Da Silva made some good runs and drew a lot of attention from the defense, but it never led to anything substantial.
Paul Islas got five shots off, but likewise couldn't find a quality look.
Biola keeper Aaron Fenlason got the shutout with seven saves, all of which were kicked right to him. The Eagles did a good job of maintaining ball control, especially in their final third and they held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks.
The loss drops the Sunbirds to 5-2 in conference play and sets them back to fourth place going into Friday's road game at second-place #17 Vanguard.
