Despite taking an early lead, the Sunbird men's soccer team was unable to hold off #22 The Master's College falling to the Mustangs 4-2 Wednesday afternoon in Santa Clarita, CA. FPU sophomore Guilherme Machado scored both FPU goals in the contest.
Machado scored his first goal in the 19th minute to give FPU the 1-0 lead after converting a pass delivered by teammate Vitor Machado.
However, FPU's lead would be short lived.
The Master's College answered right back with an equalizer less than five minutes later on goal from Joel Peluffo in the 24th minute. Peluffo would strike again in the 35th minute to give TMC the 2-1 lead and record his second of the day.
The first half would end 2-1 with the Sunbirds trailing at the break.
That changed quickly as Fresno Pacific was able to get back on level terms just after second half play resumed. Machado struck again in the 47th minute on an unassisted goal to make it a 2-2 contest and either team's game.
The Master's College had other plans.
A Mustang goal in the 60th minute by Marlon Lindo, and a 66th minute tally by Peluffo that completed his hat trick, made it 4-2 and secured the win for TMC.
The Master's outshot FPU 22-8 in the match while Sunbird goalkeeper Tim Nightingale recorded 9 saves.
Fresno Pacific drops to 4-2-1 on the season but will look to bounce back as they travel to face #13 Concordia University, Irvine this Saturday, October 3rd. kickoff is scheduled for 2PM.
