FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno Pacific (32-16, 24-12 GSAC) could not stop the roll Biola (33-20, 23-13 GSAC) started last Saturday after they swept then No. 12 Azusa Pacific. As Azusa Pacific dropped out of the top 25, Biola took down the Sunbirds coming back and scoring in the each of the final three innings. The Sunbirds lost 4-3 despite a homerun from Case Rigby to put the Sunbirds up 3-1 after the sixth inning.
Rigby led the Sunbird going one-for-three with one RBI along with Josh Jackson. #Joey Norwood# also had an RBI for the Sunbirds.
Rigby's RBI came in the sixth inning with his solo homerun to put the Sunbirds up 3-1. However, Biola climbed their way back scoring a run in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.
Brian Oliver found himself in a tough spot in the ninth inning after he gave up a triple to the Eagles with only one out. The Eagles scored on a sacrifice bunt to take the lead from the Sunbirds. Oliver finished with the loss, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and one run with two strikeouts.
Kelyn Schellenberg started the game and made in through seven innings giving up four hits and two runs with two strikeouts. #Daniel Brodie# allowed the remaining run in the eighth inning.
It was a tough loss for the Sunbirds to finish their regular season going into their conference tournament, but on the bright side, the Sunbirds found themselves three spots higher in the national rankings. The Sunbirds moved up from 14th to tied for 11th with Bellevue University.
The Sunbirds will prepare for the GSAC tournament. This will be the first season the GSAC will host a conference tournament, and it is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 4. Conference seeding will be determined later this week.
