SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 8 Fresno Pacific (29-14, 21-11 GSAC) held their own against No. 4 Point Loma Nazarene (32-10, 25-7 GSAC) putting up four homeruns combined in their split doubleheader. The long-ball was popular after five homeruns sailed out of the park in the doubleheader; the Sunbirds had three in their 10-2 win, and both teams had a homer apiece in the Sunbirds' 3-1 loss.
Dwight Nixon, Case Rigby and Karlan Andrews each had a homerun in game one. Nixon's and Rigby's came back-to-back in the Sunbirds' four-run third inning. This helped the Sunbirds jump ahead 5-1 and carry their lead to their final 10-2 win.
Nixon led the Sunbirds hitting three-for-four with four RBIs.
Point Loma had a three-run homerun early in game two, and Josh Jackson's solo homerun was not enough to get the Sunbirds into the second game; the Sunbirds lost 3-1 having the two homeruns provide the only RBIs in the game.
Danny Mora won game one pitching six innings allowing five hits and two runs with six strikeouts. David Hawes lost the second game pitching five innings allowing four hits and three runs with three strikeouts.
The Sunbirds and the Sea Lions lead the GSAC rankings, where Point Loma has a four game lead over Fresno Pacific.
Point Loma clinched at least a share of the conference crown with the split. Any win in the final four regular season games gives the Sea Lions the outright title, as does any loss by Fresno Pacific.
The Sunbirds finish their regular season with two games against Biola - on Thursday, April 23 and Tuesday, April 28 – and a doubleheader against San Diego Christian on Saturday, April 25. The Sunbirds' final four games will all be at home, and their final stretch will begin against Biola on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
