Sunbirds win with Lowell homer; 2-1 over Westmont

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.Box Score Fresno Pacific (19-9, 13-8 GSAC) came back in the seventh inning to defeat Westmont (9-22, 6-15 GSAC) 2-1.  Despite a three-hit, one-run second inning from Westmont, the Sunbirds hung in to be able to take the lead in the seventh and get the win.

 

The Sunbirds had a two-run homerun from Anthony Lowell to take the lead from Westmont, and Brian Oliver was able to hold off a ninth inning rally for the save and the Fresno Pacific win.

 

Lowell's homerun was his only hit for the game.  Five other Sunbirds had one hit apiece as well.

 

After the three-hit second inning the Sunbirds' pitching shutdown Westmont's offense.  David Hawes only allowed three more hits and no more runs after the second inning.  Kelyn Schellenberg and Oliver both allowed two hits in 1.1 innings apiece.

 

Hawes received the win pitching into the seventh inning.

 

The Sunbirds will return home, and the Warriors will follow to finish their series tomorrow. The Sunbirds have won all three games against Westmont this season.  The two teams will meet up Thursday, March 26 at 12:00 noon.
