FRESNO, Calif. – Box Score 1 / Box Score 2 – Fresno Pacific (18-9, 12-8 GSAC) came back in both games to sweep Cal Baptist (17-14, 8-12 GSAC) 3-1, 6-3. In each game, the Lancers scored all their runs before the Sunbirds came back to capture both games.
Case Rigby hit two homeruns, one in each of the Sunbirds' wins, while Danny Mora went the distance pitching all nine innings for the win in game one. Mora allowed only five hits and one run with eleven strikeouts in his winning complete game, the first complete game for the Sunbirds this season.
The Lancers took an early lead in game one with a homerun in the sixth, but Rigby answered back with his first of two homeruns. Rigby finished hitting four-for-seven with two RBIs. Dwight Nixon and Joey Norwood both had an RBI each in game one as well, hitting three-for-four and two-for-three, respectively.
Nixon came back in game two with another RBI hitting one-for-two. Jared Coleman hit two-for-three with an RBI, and Alec Mehrten was one-for-one with two RBIs.
Cal Baptist came out early in game two with three quick runs in the first inning, but Fresno Pacific answered back quickly again. The Sunbirds scored four runs in the second to take the lead from the Lancers. The Sunbirds finished off the Lancers in the fifth inning with two homeruns: Rigby's second and Nixon's second RBI of the day.
Jacob Burns got the win in the second game, pitching five innings and allowing three hits and three runs. Daniel Brodie came in as relief in the sixth inning, and kept the Lancers quiet the entire inning. Brian Oliver closed the game for his seventh save of the season, allowing two hits and no runs. Burns had five strikeouts while Brodie and Oliver each had one.
There's no rest for the Sunbirds; right after their two wins, the Sunbirds hit the road to San Jose. Fresno Pacific will take on San Jose State on Sunday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m.
