Sunbirds Fall to #11 Point Loma 45-57

The Sunbird women's basketball team hosted #11 Point Loma Nazarene earlier today in Golden State Athletic Conference play, falling to the Sea Lions 45-57 at FPU's Special Event Center. PLNU was the second of three nationally ranked opponents FPU consecutively face, and simply proved to be too much for Fresno Pacific down the stretch.

FPU was able to match up well with the Sea Lions early on and played a competitive first half against the nationally ranked squad which ended tied at 25 apiece. However, PLNU was able to improve their shooting percentages in the second period to help them go on to the comfortable 12 point win.

The Sunbirds were led by senior guard Samantha Cardeno who scored a team high 14 points on the afternoon. Junior guard Jessica Mazza also contributed with eight points, while senior guard Bricali Cooley and sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas both put up six points each.

FPU shot 37% (18-49) from the field, 32% (6-18) from three-point distance, and 50% (3-6) from the free-throw line.

With the loss, the Sunbirds drop to 5-8 in the GSAC and are 9-11 overall. Fresno Pacific will travel to do battle with #2 Vanguard University this coming Thursday, February 12th in Costa Mesa, CA. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
