Fresno, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team took on a tough Cal Baptist (9-3) squad earlier this afternoon at FPU's Special Event Center. The Sunbirds stayed close early on finishing the first half trailing just 29-34, but were unable to keep up with the Lancers eventually falling to CBU 57-71.

FPU was led offensively by sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas and junior guard Jessica Mazza. Torrecillas went 11-17 from the field and 4-4 from the free-throw line for a game high 26 points. Mazza contributed 15 points as well and was solid in the paint grabbing 8 rebounds for the Sunbirds.

We are a bit banged up right now and I feel like we played pretty well," attributed FPU head coach Meredith Pulliam. "Unfortunately, we just wore out."

Cal Baptist, who received votes in the latest NAIA Top 25 coaches poll, had three players shoot in double figures led by senior guard Nicole Davis who had 20 points on the night.

With the loss, the Sunbirds drop to 5-5 (1-2 GSAC) and will face another formidable opponent when they host #2 Vanguard University this Thursday, January 8th in FPU's Special Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
