Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Pacific men's basketball knew that extending their six game win streak would be their most formidable challenge of the season thus far in facing a talented and nationally ranked Cal Baptist squad. The Sunbirds hosted the #15 Lancers earlier this evening in FPU's Special Event Center, pulling off the upset and beating CBU 76-67 in front of an enthusiastic home crowd.
Fresno Pacific started the game tentatively, falling behind early on in the first half to an energetic and confident CBU team. However, the Sunbirds found their composure and battled back to eventually end the first period of play with momentum and a 40-33 lead.
The Sunbirds were able to pick up where they had left off to end the first half of play, and continued to build confidence extending their lead to as much as 20 points about midway through the second half. However, the Lancers would not go quietly and went on a 16-4 run to cut the deficit to four points with just under two minutes to play. FPU was finally able to regain control of the game and thwart the CBU comeback in the closing minutes to go on to upset Cal Baptist by nine points.
Three players scored in double figures for the Sunbirds with junior guard James Lewis leading the way scoring a game high 20 points. Senior forward/guard Marcus West also contributed with 16 points and junior forward Todd Brown scored 13 and had six rebounds.
