Sunbirds Withstand Warriors for 72-65 Win

Santa Barbara, Calif. – The Sunbird men's basketball team recently moved up to #6 in the latest NAIA top 25 coaches poll and took on Westmont College, currently second place in the GSAC. The two conference teams battled it out exchanging leads on a number of occasions, but the Sunbirds pulled it out down the stretch to go on to defeat the Warriors 72-65 for an unprecedented 12th win in a row.

Junior guard James Lewis led FPU with 20 points going 6-10 from the field, 3-6 from three-point distance, and was a perfect 5-5 from the free-throw line. Senior forward/guard Marcus West also contributed for the Sunbirds going 7-14 from the field for 19 points and junior forward Todd Brown put up 16 points as well. Sophomore forward Jordan Wild was strong on the boards grabbing seven rebounds and scored four points.

The Sunbirds shot 24-48 (50%) from the field, 12-27 (44%) from three-point distance, and 12-17 (71%) from the free-throw line.

"We're extremely proud of our guys and this was a gutsy win for us," complimented FPU assistant coach Chris Wright. "This was a difficult place to play and for us to come in here and find a way to win was a great accomplishment."

Fresno Pacific improves to 15-3 with the win and remains a perfect 8-0 in GSAC play. FPU will be looking to continue to build off of this historic run
