Azusa, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team faced off against another nationally ranked opponent earlier this evening, falling to #14 Azusa Pacific 57-69. The Sunbirds were coming off a commanding 30 point away win over Hope International this past weekend, but struggled to keep up with the Cougars (12-4, 3-3 GSAC) in tonight's GSAC contest.
Sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas led the Sunbirds offense in scoring shooting 7-14 from the field with 16 points. FPU senior forward MacKenzie Butler also contributed with a solid 10 point performance and was strong in the paint grabbing 9 rebounds.
Fresno Pacific shot 22-49 (45%) from the field, 5-9 (57%) from three-point distance, and were 8-12 (67%) from the free-throw line.
The Sunbirds had trouble neutralizing APU's potent offense which had four players score in double figures. The Cougars were able to take a 36-29 halftime lead and eventually win by 12 points.
With the loss, the Sunbirds fall to 6-7 (2-4 GSAC) and will be looking to bounce back when they host San Diego Christian Saturday, January 17th at FPU's Special Event Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30PM.
