Sunbirds get it done in 3-1 win over Hawks

Fresno, Calif.-  After a two week layoff , the #2 ranked Sunbirds were able to out dual the visiting Hawks of Holy Names 3-1.  A 2-0 lead at the break point allowed the Sunbirds to take and keep control of the game.

Daniel Spieth found the back of the net for the games first goal, which allowed the Sunbirds to gain the lead less than 10 minutes into the game. Spieth took advantage a risky challenge by the opposing keeper as he beat him one on one for the goal.

In a very similar sequence, Junior Gabriel Ramirez beat the goalie for a second time to give the Sunbirds a 2-0 lead. His goal at the 35:22 mark was the last of the half.

The Sunbirds would come out of intermission with high intensity as they kept the pressure on the Hawks defense. Once again they would capitalize within the first 10 minutes of play to push the lead to 3-0. After the Hawk's goalie stretched out and denied the first attempt, Sebastian Villasenor quickly sent the ricochet ball to the back of the net.

Holy Names was able to muster up a goal at the 13:41 mark of the second half, but the Sunbirds defense would stand solid from that point on.

With the win the Sunbirds improve to 2-0. They will be back in action on Tuesday, September 16th, when they travel to Dominican College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
