SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team relied on a solid team effort to defeat Bethany University 65-53 earlier this evening in Scotts Valley, CA. The Sunbirds were able to extend a narrow two point halftime lead and finish with a strong second half to beat the Bruins by 12.
Fresno Pacific's offense was led by junior guards Melissa Flores and Jessica Mazza. Flores had a team high 17 points going 6-11 from the field (3-5 from three-point range), and Mazza put up a season high 12 points.
Sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas contributed with another solid performance also scoring 12 points on the night, and senior forward McKenzie Butler was effecitve on the boards snagging eight rebounds.
FPU Head Coach Meredith Pulliam was encouraged by her team's performance tonight.
“I though we had another good defensive effort tonight,” Pulliam said. “We're starting to find our identity and realize that we have to continue to rely on each other and win as a team.”
With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 4-1 and will be back in action Tuesday December 2nd when they host Biola in their GSAC opener. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
