Fresno, Cailf. – The Fresno Pacific women's basketball team was back in action facing off against Northwest Christian College in the second day of tournament play at the William Jessup Invitational. The Sunbirds went into the contest coming off a tough 61-64 overtime loss last night against #19 Southern Oregon University.
However, tonight would be different. The Sunbirds were able to play tough defense early on which stifled Northwest Christian's offense, holding the Beacons to only 15 points in the first half of play.
Three Sunbirds scored in double figures to help Fresno Pacific cruise to a 52-31 win against the Beacons. FPU senior guard Samantha Cardeno and sophomore forward Jessica Torrecillas each scored 12 points a piece on the night and junior guard Jessica Mazza put up 10 points and had five rebounds.
“We were able to put the game away in the first half with tremendous team defense,” attributed FPU head coach Meredith Pulliam. “As far as effort goes…this was our best game of the season. I am proud of the progress we made this weekend.”
With the win, the Sunbirds improve to 3-1 and will be back in action next Saturday November 21st when they travel to Scotts Valley to face Bethany College. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00PM.
