Jon Miller became Head Coach of the FPU Men's Water Polo program on March 31, 2025. He is the second head coach in program history after
Bryan Suhovy, who transitioned to solely leading the Women's program after leading both programs since their inception in 2007 (Men's) and 2008 (Women's).
"We are thrilled to welcome Jon Miller as our new head water polo coach," said FPU Director of Athletics
Kyle Ferguson. "Coach Miller brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the game, but what truly sets him apart is his heart for student-athletes and his passion for building a Christ-centered team culture. As a Fresno native who loves this community and loves Jesus, Coach Miller is a great fit for our mission and our athletic program."
Miller made a name for himself leading one of the west coast's preeminent Women's programs, Cal Baptist University, from 2014 – 2022. Competing in the Golden Coast Conference (GCC) against Division I programs such as Fresno State, San Diego State, and Loyola Marymount, the Lancers went 144-118 in Miller's nine seasons at the helm. He was in charge during CBU's four-year transition to Division I status, and produced 14 All-Americans, 24 All-GCC selections, five GCC All-Tournament selections, as well as back-to-back NCAA Player of the Year, Hannah Evans, in 2015-16. The Lancers finished in the top-25 five times under Miller. His CBU teams also excelled in the classroom, producing numerous top-five team GPAs including the Division I's best of 3.61 in 2019.
A goalie, Miller starred at CBU as a four-year starter and team captain where he is third all-time in saves and featured throughout their record books. He was a two-time AWPCA Academic All-American and was named to CoSIDA's Academic All-District team. Prior to playing collegiately, he was a standout at Clovis High School and was named to the All-CIF first team his sophomore, junior, and senior years.
After graduating from CBU, Miller began his coaching career by leading the Women's Water Polo team at NCAA Division III Grove City College (Pennsylvania) to three consecutive CWPA titles from 2010 – 2012. He was named Division III CWPA Coach of the Year in 2010. Since 2023, Miller has been the Head of Development at Riverside Water Polo in Southern California.
"I am really excited for Jon to step in as the next men's water polo head coach," Suhovy added. "He brings a wealth of experience that will continue to help elevate the program. I'm also excited about having another water polo coach on staff to collaborate with. It's a great time for FPU water polo and the future looks bright."
Miller earned both a BS and MS in Kinesiology from CBU. He and wife Amanda – a math teacher – have three children.
