No. 4 FPU Extends Win Streak to 13

CARSON, Calif. — Nationally ranked Fresno Pacific volleyball continued its perfect start to the season Saturday, sweeping Cal State Dominguez Hills 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-14).

The 'Birds established control early in the opening set behind kills from Itzel Aguayo and Addisen Hamilton, taking a 5-4 lead before pulling away. A kill from Madelyn Feramisco and an ace from Jocelyn Yang helped spark a four-point run that pushed FPU ahead 9-4. After the Toros trimmed the deficit to 15-10, Fresno Pacific responded with a Hamilton kill, a Rachel Plantinga ace, a block from Mikayla Weiss and Rylee Pitney, and another Pitney kill to extend the advantage to 19-10. The 'Birds closed the set comfortably, with Makayla Smith delivering the final kill for a 25-13 win.

Fresno Pacific carried its momentum into the second set, jumping ahead 4-1 before extending the lead to 12-4 during a Weiss serving rotation. Feramisco recorded back-to-back kills, while Weiss added an ace to help the 'Birds create separation. CSU Dominguez Hills fought back to within 15-9, but Pitney and Smith answered with a kill and ace, respectively. The 'Birds then closed the set on a 6-1 run, highlighted by kills from Weiss, Feramisco and Aguayo before Aguayo and Weiss teamed up for a block. Amanda Lauer finished the set with a kill from Devyn Castaneda, giving FPU another 25-13 victory.

Feramisco helped Fresno Pacific jump out to a 4-0 lead in the third set, serving through a stretch that included a Smith kill and three Toros attack errors. Cal State Dominguez Hills battled back to within 16-12, but the 'Birds responded by winning seven of the next eight rallies. Feramisco added a kill, while Aguayo and Feramisco teamed up for a block as Fresno Pacific moved ahead 23-13. After the Toros picked up a final point, the 'Birds completed the 25-14 sweep.

Statistically, Feramisco led the 'Birds with 10 kills while hitting .667, adding five digs. Weiss finished with 29 assists, 13 digs, four kills and two blocks, while Pitney added eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage and Aguayo contributed five total blocks and three kills.

The victory moves Fresno Pacific to 13-0 overall and 3-0 in CCAA play. The 'Birds are the only team in the CCAA with a perfect record.
