SEASIDE, Calif. — No. 4 Fresno Pacific volleyball remains undefeated after sweeping Cal State Monterey Bay 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-12) on Friday evening. The Sunbirds hit .432 for the match, recording 42 kills against just four attack errors while adding 11 service aces.
The opening set stayed close at 8-8 before the 'Birds took control.
Madelyn Feramisco sparked the offense with three consecutive kills, while
Amanda Lauer added a pair of kills during a 7-3 run that put Fresno Pacific ahead 15-11. The Sunbirds continued to build their lead behind kills from
Mikayla Weiss and
Makayla Smith, along with an ace from
Rachel Plantinga, before closing out the set 25-16.
Cal State Monterey Bay briefly took a 6-5 lead in the second, but Fresno Pacific responded by winning five of the next six points. Weiss,
Itzel Aguayo and Feramisco helped the Sunbirds regain control, and late service aces from
Jocelyn Yang and
Devyn Castaneda helped FPU pull away. Lauer finished the set with a kill to give the 'Birds another 25-16 victory.
The Blue and Orange took control early in the third set, opening with kills from Feramisco,
Rylee Pitney and
Morgan Castaneda before Yang delivered back-to-back aces for a 5-1 lead. The Sunbirds continued to pile on the pressure, with
Julia Nicolet and Weiss adding aces and Smith contributing a kill to make it 12-5. Feramisco added two more kills and three aces during a 7-1 run that pushed the advantage to 19-7.
Lola Highstreet added a late kill, while another ace from
Devyn Castaneda helped the Sunbirds close out the sweep, 25-12.
Fresno Pacific volleyball is 14-0 overall and 4-0 in CCAA play. This marks the ninth sweep of the season for the Sunbirds.
